Thread: Parthenium an invasive alien species

Parthenium hysterophorus also known as Carrot weed, White top, Star weed, Congress weed (India) (English), Parthenium (Sinhala) which is spread by weeds.It has been known that this species was introduced to Sri Lanka through goats imported from India. This plant was first identified from the Vavuniya district. Seeds are mainly dispersed through water, animals and the movement of vehicles, machinery and other products. Many campaigns and destruction programs were organised in Vavuniya to control it. Although it is not totally eradicated from our district. It affects the crop yield as well as cause some skin diseases.

Please share your views regarding this issue. How can we totally destroy this parthenium from our district.

If everyone of us take responsibility to eradicate it from our own environment we can easily get rid from this unhealthy plant.
For this environment day, Our office colleagues work together to remove all the Parthenium plants from our work environment.
